The Winter Season is Upon Us, And With It Comes All The Activities
We’ve now reached the middle point of December, and snow is, inevitably, on the way. For some, this spells imminent, well, annoyance. And if you’re like me, the thought of snow only brings about images of ice-covered windshields, slick roads and customary frostbite. But, for others, the winter season is a time to partake in seasonal sports and activities; one, for instance, is skiing.
In an article published by the Sierra Sun, author Sarah McCallum, who is a massage therapist at North Lake Massage & Skin Care in Tahoe Vista, California, touches on the benefits massage provides for those who are hitting the slopes this winter. She writes that highly active individuals are more prone to injury due to overuse of joints and muscle groups needed to ski or snowboard all season long. One of the most vulnerable joints involved in winter sports are the tendons and ligaments that make up the knee.
“Shortly after ending a six-hour day on the hill, it is typical to have some discomfort in the legs due to intense wear and tear,” McCallum writes. “In order to keep your body in top shape, it is important to seek out some self-care post shred session. A massage is the perfect way to unwind while also encouraging the body to heal after some serious skiing.”
Frankincense Oil Is Your Best Defence in The Winter Season
McCallum writes that Frankincense oil can aid in the reduction of pain, while at the same time allowing you to relax by putting you into a meditative state.
“I have found this oil to be my go to for helping to relieve tension in the knees. Try applying a drop or two directly onto the knee and immediately covering the area with a hot towel or compress,” she writes. “The heat combined with the essential oil of Frankincense produces a highly relaxing and soothing treatment.”
